Citizens of the classroom and citizens of the world.
Across a St. Luke's education, classroom learning is intentionally and frequently supported by journeys beyond the classroom. From Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8, students go on local trips in our immediate community, intentional explorations around the greater NYC metropolitan area, and educational adventures outside our city and state.
Through these experiences, St. Luke's students gain a deeper education: both in their classroom learning and what it means to be a good citizen and leader. They learn what it means to be a valued and responsible member of not only the school community, but of the world. Our students see firsthand the way their voice, agency, and action can be used to make real and lasting change.
St. Luke’s helped inspire a spirit of adventure in me, especially field trips.

From museums to service learning, all students get numerous opportunities to take their learning out into the city and find the connections to their studies and their lives. Thoughtful work bookends every trip to bring students into meaningful dialogue and thought about what and how they are learning.
Beginning in Grade 4, students take longer, overnight trips that build strong bonds in the grade, expand on topics learned in the classroom, and expand on work done on previous trips. In our Upper School, the annual overnight trips that students partake in occur in a carefully planned sequence.

Grade 4 - 8 Overnight Trips
Beginning in Grade 4, our students participate in annual overnight trips. Each year's trip builds upon the last to support students in their journey toward becoming civic-minded community members, passionate about making the world a better place. With thoughtful pre- and post- trip work woven throughout our interdisciplinary curriculum, students have a framework to engage with questions of citizenship, responsibility, and social justice.
