St. Luke’s School enrolls 355 students from diverse religious, spiritual, and moral traditions as well as  those with no religious affiliation from Junior Kindergarten - Grade 8. There are typically 18 students in Junior Kindergarten with two head teachers. In Kindergarten - Grade 8, we offer two sections, and each section has approximately 18-20 students.

The overall student-teacher ratio is approximately 6:1. In Kindergarten - Grade 4, children learn in full groups, half groups, and small groups. In Grades 5 - 8, the program becomes increasingly departmentalized; students learn in full groups and half groups. There are special area teachers for world languages, art, dance, music, technology, science, library, world religions, and physical education.

The main entry points are in Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 6.  Applications are accepted for any grade with anticipated openings. For entrance in September 2025, we are accepting applications for Junior Kindergarten - Grade 7.

September 1 is the birthday cutoff date. Junior Kindergarten must be age four by September 1; and students entering Kindergarten must be age five by that date. Parents of children with summer or fall birthdays are encouraged to work with their pre-school or early childhood directors to determine school readiness.

St. Luke’s offers an Early Notification program for siblings as well as children of alumni, faculty and staff, and parishioners for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten. We adhere to the Early Notification program established by the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY). 

All applications applying to Grades 5 - 7 must complete the ISEE test administered by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).

Tuition and fees for 2024-2025 is  $60,476.

Financial assistance is available and is based on financial need. The Financial Aid program seeks to make the school accessible to as many families of varying economic backgrounds as possible. St. Luke's allocates 16.5% of its operating budget for Financial Aid. Students at all grade levels are eligible to apply for Financial Aid. Currently about 21% of students receive Financial Aid.

Yes! The After School Program is filled with enrichment programs and is available until 6:00 p.m. (Monday - Thursday) and 5:30 p.m. (Friday) at an additional fee. Upper School students (Grades 5 - 8) often remain after school to participate in the interscholastic athletic program.

St. Luke’s School actively seeks and serves families from diverse religious, spiritual, and moral traditions, as well as those with no religious affiliation. Our goal is to nurture students in their moral lives while affirming the full range of cultural backgrounds and perspectives within and outside of our community. The religious education program takes a global approach to spirituality, incorporating curricula focused on world religions, equity, and justice. Regular religious education & justice classes begin in Grade 3 and continue throughout the grades, with Chapel once or twice weekly. Based on the Episcopal liturgy and the goal of connecting our community to each other, Chapel meetings are adapted to the changing needs and traditions of a community that reflects and honors a deep commitment to religious pluralism.

St. Luke’s School is located on an historic garden block at 487 Hudson Street in Manhattan’s West Village, a neighborhood of Greenwich Village, steps from the Hudson River. It is at the intersection of Hudson and Grove Streets, one block south of Christopher Street.

Some students walk or are driven to school by a parent or caregiver. Children who take a subway or bus are entitled to a free student MetroCard. Many students take the MTA train to Christopher Street (1 train) or West 4th Street (A, C, E, B, D, F, M trains). Manhattan residents can request free yellow school bus transportation from the Board of Education.
