To establish this culture, we believe that the entire community must be committed to deepening our work towards diversity, equity, and social justice.

Dear St. Luke's Families and Friends,

Alongside its community standards (honesty, excellence, compassion, dignity, and respect), St. Luke’s School believes Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice, and Belonging (DEIJB) are central aspects of the human experience, the educational and moral formation of students, and the building of healthy, caring, and socially just communities.

DIVERSITY  involves the various and valuable ways that individuals and groups differ from each other including, but not limited to, ability, age, economic status, ethnicity/race, gender identity, immigration status, linguistic traditions, nationality, political beliefs, religious spiritual and ethical traditions, and sexual identity.

EQUITY  refers to intentional individual and institutional efforts to counteract the disproportionate privilege and power related to difference that is unfairly afforded to some people while denied to others.

INCLUSION  refers to intentional individual and institutional efforts to create environments where people can express and learn from their differences in safe, creative, and courageous ways.

SOCIAL JUSTICE  refers to the restoration of unjust relationships and the pursuit of reciprocal relationships that promote individual and communal well-being.

BELONGING  involves intentional individual and institutional work to establish a community where people’s dignity is upheld, humanity is celebrated, and authenticity is valued.

At St. Luke’s, DEIJB is a way of life and an ethical stance supported by our mission and our identity as an Episcopal independent school that values perspectives and practices rooted in religion, spirituality, and moral traditions. St. Luke’s School endeavors to create a culture of inclusive belonging. To establish this culture, we believe that the entire community must be committed to deepening our work towards diversity, equity, and social justice.
