Dance

The dance program allows children to learn through experience, integrating kinesthetic learning with understanding.

The dance program helps children mature physically, emotionally, socially, and cognitively. Dance allows children to learn to express their emotions and become aware of themselves and others through creative movement and improvisation. Movement within class offers a structured physical release while gaining awareness of self and others. The curriculum helps students to work cooperatively and share ideas within a group dynamic. Children in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 1 work with movement patterns that teach coordination and kinesthetic memory, while students in Grades 2 through 4 begin translating movement patterns into simple choreography with jazz and tap dance units.

Father Leach had tap dancers come into the Chapel to show us how to embrace the unexpected and to help us listen to what was around us and enjoy the unusual.Leslie Vega Butler, ‘58
