Throughout their time at St. Luke's, students learn to appreciate and enjoy music both as a creative space and as a tool for integrated learning.
The program offers a broad range of musical experiences to all students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. A strong aural component is augmented by a wide range of appropriate hands-on activities and kinesthetic experiences. Students are first introduced to musical concepts through experiences such as listening, singing, and creative dance. Students build upon these aural skills and learn to play instruments such as Orff percussion instruments, recorders, and band instruments. They develop vocal confidence and a love of singing through the learning of songs from different genres. Students acquire a deepening aesthetic appreciation of fine music through listening to recordings, studying the instruments of the orchestra, reading scores, and conducting.
My interest in music started at St. Luke’s ... I’ve continued to follow it as an avocation ever since. Christopher Stephen Jenks ‘73
